A taste of a Sweet Remedy

I like cupcakes. Yes, that is an incredibly ordinary statement, but it's something I can say wholeheartedly has not a single grain of untruth to it. Are cupcakes as impressive as a silky smooth panna cotta or some wonderfully light parfait? Perhaps not, but for a snack in the middle of a sunny winter's weekend day, they hit the spot.

Visiting boutique fashion store Coco & Lola's fourth birthday celebration sale I snacked upon a delicious little mini cupcake that had me straight onto their instagram account later that night to find out just where they'd come from. The answer, The Sweet Remedy on Oxford Street in Leederville.

Choc peanut nutter butter

Passing through Leederville the next day I called in to the cute little cafe which instantly won my heart with it's array of sandwiches, muffins and of course cupcakes to feast upon. It's a gorgeous tiny property with streaming natural light and the sound of the coffee machine whirring away.

I select four flavours to take away with me:
  • Choc peanut butter nutter (with caramel inside) $4.50
  • Lemon meringue (with lemon curd inside) $4.50
  • Strawberries and cream $4.00
  • Red velvet love $4.00

I took the sunny weekend weather as an opportunity to capture the cupcakes in some natural light - it's a great way to show just how pretty they are. My favourite in flavour and appearance is definitely the strawberries and cream cupcake. It's topped with a mountain of pink icing (calorie counters look away!) and has the lightest sweet strawberry taste.

Strawberries and cream

The cupcakes themselves are a bit denser than I was expecting but it's actually in a positive way. They have a good structure, and retain moisture to avoid a crumbly texture. The icing is generous but it's not overpoweringly sweet as you'd find at other cupcake places like Kustom Cupcake. While those ones are still yummy, there's something about this silky and mildly sweet version at the Sweet Remedy.

Red velvet love

The cupcakes go down a treat at home - with everyone declaring that this might be our new go to take away place when we're craving something sweet. I'm definitely keen to try some of their other flavours - and for those of you who want to be creative you can purchase a basic cupcake and decorate it in your own style for only $1 extra. I also spied on their website they do cupcake bouquets! Amazing!
