Soup for the soul at Suppa Club

It might sound really strange, but I love soup. I love the comforting nature, the velvety texture and the hearty, bold flavours. Wintertime is soup's friend for sure, which means that I like to fill my rainy days with this drinkable meal - especially when the thermostat drops down and a chill creeps into the air.

Recently a new addition to the farmers market scene has emerged known as Suppa Club. I first spotted their bright and dreamy looking wares on Instagram, noting not only were they offering something different to other food vendors, but that I liked their name too - it was clever and the logo stylised in an appealing manner.

Not long after I was contacted by the owner David to come by and try their soups for myself, which I was happy to do so as you can imagine! With Jeremy in tow, we swung by Subi Farmers Market one rainy Saturday morning to warm our tummies.

There were three soups on offer that day which we were given a spoonful of each to try. A vegan pumpkin and coconut, creamy potato and leek, and a hearty Hungarian goulash. They come in three sizes - small, large and the ever popular pane di casa bread bowl which is baked fresh by a bakery in Fremantle. We both knew immediately that the bread bowl was what we were after, so it was just a matter of choosing our soup straight after (this size is usually $13.00).

It was an easy pick for my boy, who's eyes immediately went straight to the goulash. I loved the vibrancy of the colour - the vivid red, and the strong aromatics that wafter our way on the strong wind that was blowing through the market. He opted for a sprinkling of grated cheese at the bottom which melted when the soup was ladled on top, and some parsley as a finishing garnish.

Tender chunks of beef with the sweet and zingy tomatoes made this soup definitely filling! Especially when scraping in pieces of bread from inside the bowl. Some people might object to soup as a breakfast dish but for us both, we really took pleasure in every bite.

We both agreed that the absolute standout for the day was the pumpkin and coconut soup which I stood and devoured as quickly as I could. With a little squeeze of cream on top (so much for keeping it vegan haha) and sprinkling of chives, this was everything a soup should be.

Really silky smooth, and a nice body to the consistency, the flavour was remarkable. As someone who makes pumpkin soup quite often, the injection of coconut into the flavour profile was wonderful - so delicious and vibrant. I can already see that this is the kind of soup that I'll obsess over and want more and more of, which is a great testament to what David is doing at Suppa Club.

If I wasn't sold enough on the soups themselves, the behind the scenes operation of this small business also appeals to me greatly. If you've read my blog before you'll know I'm a massive advocate for supporting local businesses and I also really love getting involved in helping others. Suppa Club ticks both of those boxes as they not only use local produce in their recipes, they also donate leftovers to homeless shelters. For me, having a community focussed dedication that aligns with their business model is something I can't say enough positive things about.

If you love soup, or you're willing to be convinced to, please stop by Subi Farmers Market on a Saturday or East Freo on a Sunday to get your fix from Suppa Club. I definitely can attest to the quality and the soul that is injected into every slurp-worthy mouthful.
