Must have whisky, oh, you know why... it's Alabama Song

When a new bar opens up in Perth, it tends to do so with a splash these days - after all, we are all quite partial to whetting our whistles at the latest trendiest venue. What I particular love is the specialisation many places have, with bars now usually have a dedication to a certain drink of choice such as whiskey, gin, sherry and more. 

Recently I attended the launch of our latest Northbridge bar and what I can only imagine will quickly become a hot spot. Alabama Song might be the name of a great Doors song, but it is also the newest venue belonging to the Lavish Habits Group. 

These are the clever kids behind places like Joe's Juice Joint, Sneaky Tony's, La Cholita and Pleased to Meet You (to name a few). They definitely seem to have figured out the winning formula for what it takes to launch a successful restaurant or bar, and so I was expecting big things when I arrived one cool Wednesday night. 

Enter from the laneway next to the library CPP parking and situated above Joe's Juice Joint (for those of you young enough - this is where CNVS nightclub used to be). It's dark inside and heavily themed... which I love! Think animal heads on the walls, an American flag mural, bottles of whiskey lined up behind the bar and complimentary peanuts to snack on while you sit back and relax to the sound of the honky tonk tunes.

There's definitely no shortage of things to look at, or drinks to try. We decide to try their Alabama ice tea which isn't for the faint hearted! It takes good but boy oh boy a couple of these could knock you on your ass pretty quickly. But I can imagine that with some share food, and chilling in a booth, they'd be a great summer drink on a Friday evening to unwind after a long week at work.

But if that's not quite your speed, they have over 120 different whiskey varieties to choose from so the world is your oyster for sure. 

We managed to try a couple of their snack foods going around on the night - which featured some familiar flavours from their other venues. The guacamole with fried tortilla chips were satisfying and zingy, the chips offering a lovely decadent crunch. The guacamole is definitely one of my favourite things to eat at La Cholita so it's no surprise that I enjoyed these. 

I was devastate to find out we missed out on the pulled pork and fried chicken sliders (wahhh!) but we did scoop up a couple tostadas before some fried chicken wings with blue cheese sauce came our way. 

There's were full of so much goodness I actually can't even begin. Every bite was crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and just plain yummy. I am still a bit of a novice when it comes to blue cheese but I thought the sauce was really well balanced and quite addictive in flavour. I'm not going to lie... I went back for seconds... and thirds (and possibly fourths I can't quite remember but it wouldn't surprise me).
